It's surprising how things can turn out some days.

It was the first morning where there wasn't frost on the lawn for probably the past week. So I figured riding in would be great.

No scraping the windsheild and as a matter of fact, it was raining when I got down to the park.

Muddy puddles in the parking lot (it's all dirt), so I hopped on and started up the sidewalk to the trail.

There's an intersection a ways up that to the right turns into the trail/sidewalk. I take this corner rather slowly as it is sort of blind and plus it lets the cars know my intent.

So I come up to it and my rear wheel looses traction. My first thought is "Hmm.. I didn't see any leaves on the sidewalk".

It's been said that "when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth".

On the next pedal stroke (which is now about a third of the way through the right turn) I spin again. "What the hell is going on here, I don't see anything on the sidewalk"

Third time was the charm. Down I went to get the answer.

Turns out the whole sidewalk was a sheet of ice.

After picking myself up, and getting the shifter back in place I tried to walk up the sidewalk a bit to get off of the ice. That wasn't really happening. I got about 10 feet further and it was still all ice.

What's intersesting here is that there are also driveways for an apartment complex here, which made me wonder how they were even getting out of the parking lot.

At this point the main thought going through my head was where the other icy spots would be on the way in, so I turned around, got off the ice, and drove back home and then drove in.

Looking back now, I wonder if perhaps a sprinkler system or something busted over the past few days and has been spewing water. The other thing could be that it was just a cold spot.

Anyway.... I guess this counts as a spill.
